There's only a limited number of ways in which a swingarm can be attached to a bike.
Categorising broadly, focusing on the suspension characteristics, there's only really 4 ways:
Single pivot
Multi pivot with long links (Horst link)
Multi pivot short link - with the instant centre forward (DW link, VPP, etc.)
…and the option that nobody else tried:

Options 1, 2 and 3 are relatively straightforward to conceive and develop.
Option 4 is a less obvious concept, but we’re glad we persevered. Our KOLARP suspension platform, is the major evolutionary branch that nobody realised was missing. And there are big performance advantages. So we patented it.
